Dwarakanath, she performed trials in rabbits and found that guggul considerably reduced the amount of fats, which includes cholesterol, in the bloodstream and decreased body weight. Next studies in obese adults also decreased cholesterol levels. Chemists later recognized two components in guggul that appeared to provide the most benefit, E-guggulsterone and Z-guggulsterone. However, guggul also includes a number of other compounds, including lignans, sterols, and fatty acid alcohols, and several research workers feel each of them works together to produce its various benefits.
